welcome to third grade

Hi! My name is Mrs. Melissa Layman, and I’m the 3rd Grade Teacher here at St. Joseph Catholic School in Princeton.
I hold a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Indiana (USI).
I am a dedicated educator with a total of 22 years of teaching experience. I began my career teaching Kindergarten for 17 years. Following a two-year break, I returned to the classroom and am currently in my fifth year teaching 3rd Grade.

My family and I reside in Fort Branch. I have been happily married to my husband, Chris, for 18 years. We have three wonderful children: Kali (17), Wyatt (15), and Rhett (10). We are  members of Holy Cross Church.

When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy a variety of activities. My favorite hobbies include swimming, walking, tackling crosswords, and, of course, enjoying a good cup of coffee. Most of all, I cherish the time spent hanging out with my friends and family.

Hi! My name is Morgan Merriel; I am the 3rd grade aide here at St. Joe! I'm married to my husband, Caleb, and together we have 4 children; Brooklyn, Remi, Blakely, and Conrad! We are from Mount Carmel, IL. Outside of work and school I enjoy reading, going to the gym, and being involved in my kid's sports. I love to travel and be outside. The beach is my favorite place! A fun fact about me is I have a personal goal to complete training to become more fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
I'm currently a junior at Indiana University working toward my Bachelor's in Psychology. When I graduate, I plan to continue my education at IU for a Master's in Social Work. I would like to focus on mental health and children/youth. Before starting at IU and coming to St. Joe, I worked in EMS (Emergency Medical Services) for 4 years where I learned how important mental health is, which is what sent me into the field of Psychology. My long term goal is to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and provide a safe space for those who need it.
